A Hundred “Benevolence Wells” Sweeten People’s Heart

"Water suddenly sprayed out. It was very clear and sweet. The children ran around the wells and the villagers cheered. Everyone was smiling like it’s a festival." HNA’s old staffer Li Yuke recalled witnessing the completion of the first Benevolence Well from 15 years ago, he still felt the excitement.

2003 marked the 10th anniversary of HNA’s establishment. In order to pay back to the society, HNA Group launched the “Benevolence Wells” project. For the next 15 years, HNA Group invested 20 million RMB building 100 “Benevolence Wells” in response to the lack of drinking water in Hainan.

Never forget the original motive; Launch the "Benevolence Wells" Project

"Since the installation of the Benevolence Wells, we can finally drink clean and healthy water. It not only resolved the drinking water problem, but also improved crops’ irrigation and production. Our life is so much better off!” Uncle Wu of Dong Xing Village at Dongshan Town in Haikou City said happily.

At the beginning of the project, to ensure the first well’s smooth construction and delivery, a lot of preparation work was done from site selection, construction, water quality testing and final check-up are layered out before the construction. Valuable experience was thus accumulated. Since the completion of the first “Benevolence Well” in November 2003, HNA Group has installed 100 “Benevolence Wells” for 15 consecutive years in Hainan, helping nearly 30 million people with their drinking water shortage difficulties.

Overcome Difficulties, benefit the people in areas with water shortage

"To witness the vast improvement of the villagers’ living conditions, we are particularly pleased. It means that HNA Group’s public welfare has not been done in vain. The difficulties and hardships of this project are worth it." HNA Benevolence Wells project manager Zhou Junshan commented with deep sentiment.

Although surrounded by the sea, Hainan’s terrain rather low in the center, which is not conducive to the storage of precipitation. Its river runs directly into the sea. The west side has more basalt area. Its stone cannot keep the water. People normally use water tank.
Agriculture solely relies on the weather.

"In Hainan, water shortage makes it hard to find wells. Technology is a major hurdle.
On the basis of lowering the cost and work in accordance with the local topography features, find good source of high quality water as soon as possible is our primary consideration." Benevolence Wells project consultant Feng Tinghan said.

"On the ‘Benevolence Wells’ project, in order to ensure the quality of drinking water for local residents, in addition to drilling wells, return-visit repair is also a very important part of the work." Benevolence Wells project manager Chen Long said. Between 2015 and 2016, after many aspects of research, HNA Group completed a total of 17 well repairs.

As the project deepens, part of the water shortage area in Hainan has been replaced with steady water supply.  Crops have also been irrigated. HNA Group also received affirmation and praise from the local government with the “Benevolence Wells” project.

Work for the community; work for the People

“Benevolence Wells” is HNA Group major public welfare project in Hainan. At the same time, it serves as an example of HNA Group’s social responsibility. This year, HNA Group completed the last nine “Benevolence Wells”, honoring its promise to the Hainan people building 100 wells and practicing HNA’s corporate philosophy as in “Work for the community; work for the People.”

The significance of the “Benevolence Well” project isn’t just drilling wells, it is HNA Group’s response in helping the new and rural construction, breaking the water resource "bottleneck" and support the rise of Hainan’s green project exploration. HNA Group will use the 100 “Benevolence Wells” as an opportunity, calling on the public to pay attention to water resources protection.
