Hainan Airlines takes its uniforms to trendy new heights

Flight attendants on new routes from NYC to Southwestern China don runway-worthy uniforms

Airplane aisle or mile-high runway? That will be the question passengers ask when they meet the flight attendants on the new Hainan Airlines flights launching between JFK Airport and Chengdu and Chongqing this weekend.

In line with the goal to promote diplomatic relations and cultural exchange between the U.S. and China, the uniforms blend east and west influences to represent the international and trendy Hainan Airlines brand. Designer Laurence Xu, who partnered with the airline to create the high-fashion look, was inspired by the traditional Chinese Cheongsam and the classic silhouette of a modern Western suit.

With light grey coats and stylish dresses in Chinese-influenced Roc print, the collection was revealed at Paris Fashion Week in July.
